This work was not created from distance. It was written from within.
Who is speaking?
The First Witness is the voice through which The Book of Us first entered form. Not as an observer standing outside the work, but as one shaped by what the work names.
This role is not a title of control. It is a position of witness. It names the responsibility to carry what was received, protect what was revealed, and give language to what many have felt but not yet fully named.
The witness speaks from within the return.
Relationship to the work
The Book of Us is the origin text. It opened the language, the rhythm, and the sacred movement that became the foundation of Sacred Recovery.
The Sacred Recovery Institute is the structure that emerged from that work— a place where the language of recognition, lineage, memory, and return can be carried forward with clarity.
Earl Nicholson Simmons writes as the First Witness to an unfolding body of work—beginning with The Book of Us and continuing through the structures and language of Sacred Recovery. Together, these works form a living record of recognition for a people learning to name what was carried.
What this is not
This is not a claim to stand between a people and God. It is not a replacement for faith, tradition, or inherited sacred practice.
It is not leadership built on distance. It is witness rooted in proximity, memory, and responsibility.
The work does not ask a people to follow a person. It asks a people to recognize what has been carried.
This is not about who stands in front.
It is about what has come forward.
