Framework 05
Lineage Is the Map
The path is not geographic. It is generational.
Core Statement
Sacred Recovery teaches that lineage is the map by which a people locate themselves.
When geography is broken, records are distorted, names are changed, and origin is obscured, lineage becomes more than ancestry.
It becomes direction.
For American Descendants of Slavery, lineage is not simply a trail backward. It is a sacred structure that tells a people where they stand, what they carry, and why they belong.
Theological Grounding
The map was never only land.
A people can lose access to location and still carry sacred orientation.
The map survives in memory, kinship, culture, testimony, family patterns, inherited language, and the witness of Foundational Mothers and Fathers.
This Framework teaches that Sacred Recovery does not begin by asking a people to search elsewhere. It begins by helping them recognize the map already carried through lineage.
What This Framework Corrects
It corrects the lie of rootlessness.
We are not people without a map. We are people whose map was carried in ways systems could not fully erase.
It corrects the lie that origin must be externally assigned.
A people do not need permission from outside systems to recognize what lineage has preserved.
It corrects the lie that the search must always move outward.
The sacred map is not found by fleeing the self. It is recognized by returning to memory.
Sacred Recovery Application
To recover is to learn how to read what lineage has carried.
Sacred Recovery does not treat lineage as mere history. It treats lineage as sacred orientation.
This Framework establishes that American Descendants of Slavery are not untethered. The path is carried through blood, memory, record, witness, and return.
